What to do if you have a car accident?
1. Check if anyone, including yourself, the other driver, or any pedestrians, is injured.
2. Move to a safe area.
If it’s a minor accident, move your car to a safe location and turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers and prevent a chain-reaction crash.
3. Take photos and videos, including:
a) The other driver’s name, ID number, phone number, and address
b) The other driver’s car license plate number, model, color, and road tax sticker
c) The damaged parts of both cars and the location of the accident
Section 52(1) of the Road Transport Act of 1987:
Vehicle owners have a legal obligation to provide their name, address, and license plate number at the scene of an accident.
4. Settle privately or report to the police.
The parties involved can negotiate a solution on their own.
If reporting to the police, it should be done within 24 hours.

Accidents must be reported to the police within 24 hours.
5. Towing.
If your car is too damaged to drive, do not accept towing services casually.
Contact your insurance company or agent immediately.
6. Investigation
The police will interview both parties and issue fines if necessary.
7. Repair
After reporting to the police, the insurance company will arrange for towing to a designated repair shop.
8. Claim
If you want to file a claim with your insurance company, you can handle it on your own, or you can seek assistance from an insurance agent or lawyer.
