What are the consequences of drug abuse in Malaysia?<\/span><\/p>\n

Under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952:<\/p>\n

Any person found guilty of drug abuse, drug addiction, or having drugs in their system<\/p>\n

Can be fined up to RM 5,000 or imprisoned for up to 2 years, and subject to an observation period of not more than 3 years.<\/p>\n

Are the penalties more severe for repeat offenders?<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes.<\/p>\n

Under Section 39C(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952:<\/p>\n

Any person charged with a second drug offense or drug usage.<\/p>\n

Can be sentenced to imprisonment for not less than 5 years or not more than 7 years and receive up to 3 strokes of the cane.<\/p>\n
